NHBC Double Awards

Be proud! Colin does the double

Covid-19 may mean that awards ceremonies have “gone virtual”, but pride and congratulations are completely pandemic-proof! And we’re really proud to congratulate our own Colin Richardson on a double win at the NHBC’s Pride in the Job awards 2020.

The awards scheme celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. The NHBC says: “It’s the one all site managers want to win, and for some, described as the pinnacle of their career.” The awards celebrate the vital role site managers play in the housebuilding process, and showcase site managers’ dedication to the quality of the homes under construction.

Colin Richardson was awarded one of the coveted prizes for his work on our Cowslip Lane development in Gamlingay, which was celebrated during a virtual ceremony on 30 October (you can watch it here: https://youtu.be/Wq7iKhQ7LV0). However, during the ceremony, Colin was shortlisted for the next stage of the competition, and he also took home (virtually, of course!) a Seal of Excellence award.

The Seal of Excellence recognises leadership, the pursuit of quality and focus on customer satisfaction. Colin’s dedication and attention to detail, combined with his management abilities and expert building knowledge, earned him both awards. Everyone at Maulden Vale and Hillson’s is incredibly proud of his accomplishment.

What’s more, Colin’s win proves that despite the pandemic, The Hillson Group of Companies remains committed to putting quality at the top of our agenda.

Well done, Colin!

NHBC Double Awards

Be proud! Well done, Colin

The NHBC’s Pride in the Job awards scheme celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2020 and we’re thrilled to reveal that our own Colin Richardson has won one of the coveted prizes for his work on our Cowslip Lane development in Gamlingay.

The Pride in the Job awards recognise the vital contribution of site managers to the housebuilding process and their contribution to the quality of the end product. The NHBC says that: “Winning site managers demonstrate incredible dedication, passion, commitment and leadership to produce homes of exceptional quality.”

Colin’s dedication and attention to detail, combined with his management abilities and expert building knowledge, earned him the award, and everyone at MJ Hillson is incredibly proud of his accomplishment. Company founder Michael Hillson said: “I am extremely proud of our company’s history and the huge achievements we have experienced over many years building outstanding homes, and today your dedication to build the perfect home is contributing significantly in our company’s ability to continue with this aim.”

Unfortunately, owing to the ongoing Covid-19 situation, Colin won’t be able to attend a live event marking the next round of judging. However, Colin’s win proves that whatever the situation in the wider world, Maulden Vale remains committed to putting quality at the top of our agenda.

Well done, Colin!

Ivy Farm Development - Maulden Vale

Ivy Farm Development

Your new home in beautiful rural England – the perfect space to
live, work or retire

We’ve all spent a lot more time at home during 2020… and realised how important outside space and fresh air is for our wellbeing. Many of us have also decided to move out of cities and overcrowded suburbs, but want to retain the ease and style of contemporary living and also be able to work from home.

Ivy Farm in Tebworth offers the perfect package: amazing views of unspoiled countryside combined with modern design and construction, in a village location. Situated on the edge of the Bedfordshire village of Tebworth, the three plots at Ivy Farm offer generous living space, large private gardens and open fields on the doorstep. Good plots like these in the countryside are few and far between.

Our new homes at Ivy Farm are individually designed and based on the footprint of the original farm barns. However, they’re not “barn conversions” – each property will be rebuilt from scratch using high-quality materials and the latest energy-efficient techniques. We have also focused on creating comfortable home-office spaces, reflecting how so many of us now spend our working hours.

The single-storey property occupies an “L” shape, with two impressive bedroom suites at each end, open-plan living/dining space on the corner and a separate room for work or relaxation. Meanwhile, the stunning pair of homes cleverly gains maximum ceiling height, making the most of the barns’ barrelled roof space, by putting the bedrooms and utility on a lower ground floor and the living space on the first floor, creating stunning vistas outside the rooms where you’ll spend the most time. Each property has two beautiful bedroom suites , with a further two double bedrooms as well as sensibly sized home offices.

The three gated community dwellings will be reached by driving through electric gates, along a secluded, landscaped driveway providing you with glorious privacy. In addition, each home has a large double garage, ideal for parking two cars and storage.

When you buy a plot and build this way it also gives you the chance to work with us to create your ideal living space, that will take to another level the exceptional quality and craftsmanship
of this Mauden Vale project. You’ll be creating both a home and
an asset.

It’s the ideal time to make the move to a property that gives you both a countryside escape and a place to work or retire – come and see Ivy Farm and we’ll create your next home together.

The Paddocks view

The Paddocks – What you see really is what you get!

Uninterrupted, unrivalled views of the Bedfordshire countryside, from Maulden Woods to rolling fields – the perfect vista from the perfect home. We encourage our homebuyers to choose elements of their new home in order to create the ideal living space but, even with a high quality, bespoke interior, what won’t change is those amazing views from the rear of the property.

“The Paddocks”, the newest home in our Badger Hill community, truly is a once-in-a-lifetime plot. The gated plot sits on the edge of the Badger Hill development, a small neighbourhood of contemporary, stylish, comfortable homes built to the highest construction and environmental standards. Each unique property (we don’t build rows of identikit boxes) is perfect for downsizers and those with a little more time to enjoy their surroundings but who don’t want to compromise on space or style. Vaulted ceilings, huge 3 to 4 metre high glass windows and plenty of accessibility bring the concept of the bungalow into the 21st century.

If you’re looking to build your own forever home, the Paddocks is a gated plot like no other: the views are unique and the site comes with planning permission for a single-storey property including 2 fabulous bedroom suites, with a further 2 en-suite bedrooms. The computer-generated pictures you see here give you a flavour of the kind of beautiful home that could be constructed, although those views are not CGI – they’re the real deal.

Building this way also gives you the chance to work with us to create your ideal living space – you’ll be creating both a home and an asset.

Plots such as The Paddocks really don’t come along that often – come and take a look and imagine your next home in the heart of the countryside.

Badger Hill

Our exclusive development for the over-55s is now becoming the community we envisaged – only four homes remain: three of the two-bedroom houses and Plot 1, the largest on the site. As part of our commitment to creating a welcoming neighbourhood, we’re working hard to keeping the homes we’ve yet to sell clean and well-maintained.

Cowslip Lane latest

What television couldn’t do, we could!

We’ve just welcomed three new homeowners into our Cowslip Lane development in Gamlingay with the completion of sales on plots 9, 10 and 12. As ever, we made sure our buyers’ needs were listened to and met, working with them at every stage of the sales process and collaborating on interior design details. Our new residents of plot 12 had been searching for a house for a while and had even been on TV’s Escape to the Country, but Cowslip Lane was exactly what they wanted.

We were especially proud to receive an email from the new owners thanking us for our approach during the buying process – it’s feedback like this that lets us know we’re doing the right thing.

On behalf of Nicki and I, please convey our sincere thanks to Mr Hillson and the team for the lovely flowers which came today….they are lovely.

We are absolutely delighted with the house, and are looking forward to living there. May we take this opportunity to thank you and Colin especially for your excellent approach  over the past months…it was a significant factor in our choice to buy No. 5

Very kindest regards Nicki and Uel

We’ve now started work on plot 11 at Cowslip Lane – in fact, the roof is about to go on. And we’re making progress on the four we have left to build – plots 5, 6.7 and 8 – the scaffolding is poised to come down on 7 and 8.

Happy birthday to us

We’ve been celebrating – our boss Michael Hillson has been marking 50 years in business!

As a carpentry apprentice half a century ago, Michael decided to strike out on his own, setting up a carpentry sub-contracting firm. Having built and expanded the business, as well as trained teams of apprentices over the years, now he’s the head of a family of companies, including us here at Maulden Vale. Michael’s commitment to extremely high standards of design and construction, as well as a genuinely personal approach to looking after our buyers, is what drives us all to make Maulden Vale a continued success.

An ongoing relationship

For some developers, handing over the keys means the end of their relationship with the buyer. That’s it – we’re done now. See ya. On to the next development.

But at Maulden Vale, we strongly believe in getting to know our buyers from the moment they say “yes”. We welcome off-plan buyers to our building sites, as we think it’s important that they can see the progress of their future home. We also like to meet our buyers and really get to know them – especially if they’re involved in choosing internal fittings such as kitchen and bathroom décor.

We talk through construction plans as they evolve, and if possible we’ll reflect our customers’ needs and wishes in the finished house. We really want our buyers to feel as if they’re part of the process. Once people have bought one of our homes, we don’t just leave everything to the solicitors.

We try to get to know our buyers – members of our team have even helped people move in (and put the kettle on!). Our commitment is ongoing – we’ll keep in touch and keep an eye on how are homes are ageing – we’re keen to keep an eye on the maintenance-free aspects of our builds too. We’re still in contact with people who purchased our homes 30 years ago, and previous buyers occasionally ring up to ask where we’re building next.

For us, housebuilding is about more than producing boxes. We create homes – and we care about those who live in them.

A stunning new home for the final phase of Cowslip Lane

We’re thrilled to announce that Plot 11 of our Cowslip Lane development in Gamlingay has been granted planning permission. The largest plot in the community, Plot 11 will be transformed into a stunning four-bedroom home that’s perfect for the way we live now.

We’re really keen for our buyers to be part of the process of creating the house, and we’re currently producing a brochure with computer-generated impressions of the layout, which is larger than any comparable development. However, we hope our buyers will visit the site with us to check progress, as well as choosing key internal features such as kitchen tiles.

One thing about Plot 11 that’s made us particularly proud is the huge glass “wall” of doors across the entire rear ground floor. We spent a long time sourcing the correct glass that would also provide enough insulation as well as letting in the light.

The internal space we plan for Plot 11 is much bigger than average, from the huge open kitchen and orangery to the two further downstairs rooms to the four upstairs bedrooms, including a master suite with vaulted ceilings. So often, larger new-build houses squeeze in five or six bedrooms but we wanted the emphasis to be on space, rather than compromise.

Although, having said that, we have actually included the possibility of a fifth bedroom, because above the detached garage is a room with its own bathroom. However, buyers may prefer to use this space as an office (keeping work separate from home) or even a teenage annexe.
